Total Solids/Volatile Solids

Total solids are determined by measuring weight loss resulting from dehydrating the sample in an oven under controlled conditions. The percentage of weight remaining is reported as total solids.

Total Dissolved / Suspended Solids

Total Suspended Solids (TSS) are determined through a quick centrifugation of weighed sample, then the resulting supernatant is filtered through a filter paper into a Buchner funnel and subjected to vacuum suction filtration. the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), the filtrate (filtered liquid) is poured onto a prepared aluminum pan and is dried in an oven overnight. The percentage of weight remaining is reported as the total dissolved solids.

The samples are prepared by microwave digestion with nitric acid. Samples are analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) to identify and quantify elements in parts per million based on calibration curves of known standards.

BIOMETHANE POTENTIAL TESTS (BMP)​

A Biomethane Potential Test is a standardized laboratory test to determine the gas potential from a feedstock.

A traditional BMP, performed with mostly seed, and a small amount of substrate to provide an assumed BMP value. These studies are good when dealing with a substrate that is a partial feed to your AD system, and does not represent a significant feedstock.

Study to understand biology of a feedstock. Sample will be processed for DNA speciation and categorized by function. This study can help to identify lacking species in the methanogenic process, as well as identifying preferred physical characteristics of existing species.

H₂S Reductive Study

In-depth study to analyze influent and identify ways to reduce H2S production. Testing shall consist of a biological assay to determine microbial speciation and a nutrient panel to identify chemistry imbalances that lead to unhealthy bacterial populations. Results shall be cross-referenced against our microbial database to identify biochemistry adjustments that we believe will reduce H2S yields.
